Presence and Power #2 | How to be filled with the Holy Spirit | March 26, 2023
Bob Schwahn | Lead Pastor
“On the last and greatest day of the festival, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, ‘Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.’ By this he meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive. Up to that time the Spirit had not been given, since Jesus had not yet been glorified.” John 7:37-39 (NIV)
“Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is. Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit.” Ephesians 5:15-18 (NIV)
“Be Filled”
Present tense:

ASSIGNMENT: Practice Spiritual Breathing
1. EXHALE: Confess Sin

Reflection Questions:
1) What was one thing from the sermon that stuck out to you? Why?
2) Where in your life are thirsty? Feeling dry? Wanting more? Where do you need a fresh filling of the Holy Spirit?
3) How would you define what it means to be filled with the Spirit? Paul compares it being drunk on wine. (Ephesians 5:18) Explain the connection to wine. How is that similar and different?
4) How does sin in our life affect our ability to be filled with the Holy Spirit?
5) How have you experience the conviction of the Holy Spirit in your life? John 16:7-8
6) Why is confession and repentance of sin important to experiencing the fullness of the Holy Spirit?
7) Explain the idea of Spiritual Breathing? What do we exhale? What do we inhale? How do we do that practically?
8) What areas of your life do you need to surrender or “resurrender” to the control and power of the Holy Spirit?
9) Are there areas of your life that you are “grieving” or “quenching” the work of the Holy Spirit in your life? Ephesians 4:30, 1 Thes. 5:19
10) Are you growing in your awareness of the Holy Spirit and when He is speaking? Why or Why not? Share an example.
