Splinters: Accountability and Challenge | June 11, 2023

“Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my thoughts. See if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.” Psalm 139:23-24 (NIV)

“How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.” Matthew 7:4-5 (NIV)

“Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.”  Ephesians 5:21 (NIV)

Do you run from correction? 

In the family of God, we must be able to receive and give correction.

How did your family handle differences, challenge, and conflict?

Qualities to look for:

- Do they practice appropriate vulnerability?

- Are they safe and trustworthy?

- Do they know God’s word?

- Can they point out your blind spots? Are they aware of theirs?

- Do they want you to love Jesus more?

Be brutally honest with yourself and one “inner circle” person this week.  

Reflection Questions:

1) Who in your life holds you accountable in terms of faithfully walking with Jesus? Who could you invite to do this for you? 

2) Why do you think accountability and challenge is so difficult?

3) Which do you give more time and energy to? Anxiety and hiding or becoming more aware and fighting for one another?
