The truth every parent knows: Parenting is Complicated

Christian parents should cultivate an “Impressive Faith”

Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates. Deuteronomy 6:4-9 (NIV)

Three Ideas for Cultivating an “Impressive Faith”:

1) Start with your Heart

“Love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength.” Deuteronomy 6:5 (NIV)

2) Delight in your Daughters and Strengthen your Sons

3) Honor your parents

“Honor your father and your mother, as the Lord your God has commanded you, so that you may live long and that it may go well with you in the land the Lord your God is giving you.” Deuteronomy 5:16 (NIV)

One ordinary piece of furniture that can transform your family: The Table

Take the Table Challenge: Gather around the table as a family this week, without screens, to have great food, drink, and a conversation about faith.

Reflection Questions:

1) Why do you think that parenting is complicated?

2) Do you have an “Impressive Faith”?

3) What is one tangible way that you can honor your parents?

4) How could The Table in your home help cultivate “Impressive Faith”?

5) What is your plan for this week to gather around The Table with those in your home?

For Parents:

1) How “Impressive” is your faith to your children?

2) How can you delight in your daughters and strengthen your sons this week?

3) What is your plan to use The Table with your kids this week?
